NEW CHAIRMAN OF SBSA
Malcolm Lloyd, Headmaster of Brymore School in Somerset, took over as Chairman of SBSA at the AGM in June.
Taking up post for two years, Malcolm thanked out-going Chairman, Paul Spencer Ellis (Royal Alexandra and Albert School, Surrey) for his outstanding contribution to SBSA and his energetic and enthusiastic leadership of the Association for the past two years.
Malcolm was himself a boarder for 10 years before training as a PE teacher, moving into Youth and Community work, before becoming Head of Brymore in 2003. He describes his current job as ‘the best job in the world.’
In September, Malcolm moves his school into seven new classrooms and into two new boarding houses in January. He has spent £5 million of government funding ‘bringing Brymore into the twenty first century’.
Brymore, with its 100 acre organic farm, tended by the boys, and its blacksmithing forges and a foundry and superb workshops, is a school well and truly out of the ordinary, with 50% of its pupils coming from a farming background.
Malcolm looks forward to the challenge of leading the SBSA at an exciting time, when the government has reiterated its support for state boarding and this best-kept secret in education may become more widely known as the credit crunch bites. |
