Wrap Up Wednesday
Thursday 12th January 2012
There was a distinct change to the normal school uniform at Wymondham College this week, but it was only for one day.
Students were looking more than usually colourful in an extra layer of hoodies and hats as they took part in wrap up Wednesday as part of 'Big Switch Week' at the College.
On Wednesday staff and students all made a particular effort to turn down the radiator valves to 3 or below, reminding them to put on an extra layer rather than wondering around in a t-shirt with the heating on. They were also considering that 1 in 5 households in the UK are in fuel poverty so wrapping up warm is really important for these people. Students could wear hats and hoodies during the day along with their uniform.
The aim of Big Switch Week is to remind us all to use good energy behaviours and to make people aware of fuel poverty in the UK.
There are also competitions between teaching departments to see which have the best energy behaviours and a range of activities throughout the week.
Teacher, Mrs Vic Dinwoodie, who is helping students to co-ordinate Big Switch week said "this week is really important because we all need reminding how to behave in an energy efficient manner. This year, we are focusing on the social issue of fuel poverty as well as environmental concerns. This should raise awareness amongst students that energy use is a concern within our local communities as well as at a wider scale."
