Saatchi boss goes back to school

Friday 9th July 2010

Advertising boss Kevin Roberts of Saatchi and Saatchi went back to school this week as he revisited Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where he was a pupil in the 1960s.

He joined a group of children from local primary schools who attend the InspirUs programme, which he is funding at LRGS. InspirUs, an innovative programme for local primary schoolchildren, aims to raise aspirations and to encourage able pupils to explore avenues well beyond the confines of the National Curriculum. So far the programme has covered topics such as Japan, May the Force be With You, Planet Saline and The Aliens are Coming!

Kathryn Page, InspirUs Co-ordinator, says: "InspirUs encourages creative, curious, collaborative, critical and thoughtful thinkers. We want the pupils to grow in confidence with an appetite for learning; to look for connections, to speculate and explore alternatives. We aim to develop their questioning, talking and arguing skills though our individual education programme. InspirUS fires their imagination beyond the confines of the typical primary classroom experience".

So far 209 primary pupils have been included in the InspirUS programme, which opened its doors in January 2010. Next academic year InspirUs plans to cater for approaching 400 children. Feedback has been very positive from participating pupils, parents and teachers alike.
