Lancaster Royal Grammar School athletes are northern champions, winning the trophy and all three age group events at the HMC Northern Schools Athletics Championship recently. Some 12 teams from the North of England took part in the prestigious championship which was held at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow.

On Tuesday Paul Spencer Ellis, the Headmaster of the Royal Alexandra and Albert School went to Sainsburys to do some shopping. The Lancaster Royal Grammar School quiz team became national champions recently. The team travelled to London to compete in the last eight of the national Schools Challenge Quiz. The format is similar to University Challenge, and this was the school's fourth appearance in the latter stages in as many years, up against the top schools in the country.

Junior pupils at the Royal Alexandra and Albert School have produced a very special gift for the Queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee. To commemorate her 60 years as monarch, pupils have made a book that includes information about the key events that have taken place during her reign. The Duke of York's Royal Military School's military band was invited to participate in the Beating Retreat ceremony at Chatham Historic Dockyard on 12 May.
The occasion was Submariners' Day, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the launching of the submarine Ocelot in dry dock. She was the last ship to be built for the Royal Navy at Chatham.

Old Swinford Hospital student Christopher Bransbury has been awarded an 'Air Cadet Pilot Scheme' flying scholarship by the RAF.
Christopher recently gained his 'Silver Wings' after completing a Gliding Scholarship Course at RAF Cosford and was recommended for this prestigious scholarship. Prior to flying solo, Christopher had to bank 5 ½ hours with an instructor.
